Deben Open Meet
This weekend Deben swimming club held its annual open meet. Starting on Friday evening with the long distance events – the 800m and 1,500m freestyle and continuing through Saturday and Sunday with the full range of distances and strokes, finishing with the 50m freestyle.
Deben had a highly successful weekend with 50 swimmers taking part over the 3 days. From these there were 234 Suffolk County qualifying times achieved, and 41 East region qualifying times; as well as numerous new personal best times recorded.
There were so many outstanding individual performances, it is impossible to mention them all.
Fennella Foskett raced superbly all weekend picking up six gold trophies, Regional qualifying times and new best times (Pbs). In the 100m freestyle she had an outstanding race breaking 60 seconds for the first time!
Louis Seller was awesome throughout the competition, achieving no less than 6 regional qualifying times and gaining 5 gold trophies, 2 silvers and one bronze in the 12/13 age category. A fantastic performance!
Emma Studd had a very successful weekend, also competing in the 12/13 year age band she collected 11 trophies consisting of 5 golds,3 silvers and 3 bronze; as well as gaining County qualifying times and several new Pbs.
Georgina Fulcher, competing in the 9 year age group, swam well gaining trophies in all her 8 swims achieving 7 golds and one silver; also achieving all her County qualifying times.
Beccy Wilson won 4 golds and one silver, and achieved excellent Pbs in her 200m and 400m IM, as well as the 400m and 800m freestyle.
A special mention to 4 new swimmers, who were competing for the first time: 10 year old Hannah Moore; 11 year old Damien Collis , (who picked up 2 bronzes); Eilidh McEwan (12) and Francesca Souter (11), who all swam extremely well!
