East Region Winter Championships 2017
Last weekend saw Hannah Taplin, Harvey Hall, Lily Bemmer, Matthew Anderson, Meg Claydon and Tara Coleman all compete in the East Swimming 2017 Long Course Winter Championships.
This was the first major meet of cycle 1 under new performance coach Matthew Naunton. During the meet we had 16 swims between the swimmers (not including the head coach Kieran Whight competing in the 50 Fly), with every individual achieving a long course personal best time in at least one event.
Overall they achieved 62.5% PB rate which was fantastic for all to see. This being said this was not the most pleasing accomplishment of the meet. The sense of togetherness that the team showed in supporting each other was a pleasure to witness. The resilience certain individuals have had to show over the last few months to get them in a position to achieve what they have achieved has been nothing short of inspiring to see.
As a relatively new coach I am still learning about the art of the coaching and the individuals I coach, but one thing this meet has taught me is that those swim in the performance squad are made of something that not everyone possesses. It has filled me with pride to see how they have responded. The journey for us all is only just beginning and this is by no means the final destination. There are still many more exciting times to come and for all the swimmers in the squad I hope they continue to believe in what I know they are capable of.
