On the 28th November 2 teams from Deben competed in the first round of the ASA Suffolk County Winter League.
In this round all the events are raced over the 200m distance in all 4 strokes and age groups.

In division 1 the A team went to Newmarket to compete against teams from Beccles, Sudbury, Saxons and West Suffolk. The A team had some strong competition from West Suffolk throughout the evening with both teams battling hard and producing some great racing! It was neck and neck for the whole gala, but West Suffolk just pipped Deben for the win by only 5 points! The close competition produced some great individual performances from the Deben team with everyone raising their game and achieving numerous personal best times. There was a fantastic atmosphere and great team spirit!

Girls captain, Fenella Foskett was superb in both her races winning the girls open 200m Individual medley (IM) in a new best time of 2.25.96; and also first in the open 200m butterfly, with the Joker for double points, and another best time of 2.28.48. Boys junior captain Adam Last also won both his races with outstanding swims! In the boys 13/14 years 200m breaststroke he took a convincing win to achieve a new a best time of 2.49.50. His other first place was in the boys 13/14 years 200m freestyle, in which he gained double points with the joker, and in a new best time of 2.08.82.

Beccy Wilson had 2 great swims winning both the girls 13/14 years 200m IM in 2.40.18 and the girls open 200m breaststroke in 2.52.84. Louis Seller took the win in the boys 13/14 200m backstroke with a time of 2.30.05; while Lucy Stokes had a strong finish in the girls 13/14 years backstroke, taking the win on the touch!  Bethany Elmer had a great first place in the girls 13/14 year 200m freestyle with a time of 2.20.11; and Jasmine Seller won the girls 13/14 grueling 200m butterfly event in a time of 3.03.94. Other notable performances and Pbs came from Evie Adams ( 2nd in open 200m freestyle in 2.21.77); Charlie Fulcher (2nd in 12 & under 200m freestyle- 2.32.20 and 2nd in 200m butterfly 3.22.36); Ali Clements (2nd in open 200m freestyle 2.04.47); Gregor Tait (2nd 12/U 200m breaststroke, 3.25.45); and Nick Elmer (2nd in 12/U 200m backstroke, 2.51.81).

A special mention to Charlotte Wickens who stepped at the last minute to swim in the girls 200m backstroke.

Meanwhile the strong Deben B team, who travelled to Lowestoft competed consistently to defeat teams from Great Yarmouth, Beccles B and Stowmarket B. They had a convincing win on the night with everyone swimming superbly and numerous first positions. Again, good team spirit  and support help to produce some great swims! Notable performances came from Jake Garrod in the boys open 200m freestyle who fought back furiously from 2nd place to take the win. Emma Studd had a confident win, (with the joker for double points), in the girls 13/14 years 200m backstroke. Chloe Hembry swam well in 3 races winning the girls 13/14 years 200m breaststroke and 200m IM. She also battled hard in the open 200m breaststroke to take 2nd place.
