Ipswich Open Meet Jan 2010
Deben swimming club had several swimmers competing in the annual Ipswich Open Meet over the weekend. A very successful 2 days was had by everyone who took part with a number of new personal best times recorded.
The highlights of the weekend’s competition was:
Fenella Foskett achieving joint top girl in the 16 and over age category, and gaining several new best times and top 3 places along the way. Her strongest performances were in the 400 Individual medley (IM), where she gained a 7 second PB with a time of 5.01.65; and also in the 200 IM, where she knocked 4 seconds off her time ( 2.23.46).
Louis Seller was outstanding in all his events, collecting several east region qualifying times and some fantastic new best times along the way. His 100m backstroke was a stunning swim taking 5 seconds from his previous time (1.07.36) to gain a great 2nd position in the 12/13 year age group. He had equally impressive performances in the 400m IM and 400m freestyle gaining 3rd positions in both with times of 5.17.87 and 4.39.72 respectively.
Chloe Hembry competed convincingly in the 14 year age band gaining 2 East region qualifying times for the first time: in 50m butterfly she finished 3rd with a time of 32.76 and in the 50m freestyle with a new best time of 29.69.
Emma Studd in the 12/13 year age band had some strong performances throughout the weekend gaining Regional qualifying times in the 200m freestyle with an outstanding new best time of 2.22.00; and also in the 200m backstroke with a 6 second PB of 2.37.64.
Abi Hill swam convincingly in all her events, but particularly in the 12/13 years 100m backstroke where she achieved a 3 second PB (1.15.05) also gaining a new club record.
Kieran Whight had a superb race in the 12/13 years 400m freestyle, gaining a massive 18 second PB to finish in 4.52.09. He swam equally well in the 200m freestyle knocking over 10 seconds from his time ( 2.19.87).
Chloe Calver in the 10/11 years age band had a great performance in the 200m backstroke, shaving a massive 11 seconds from her time (2.56.81).
The youngest competitor from Deben 10 year old Georgina Fucher also gained many new best times, but her best achievement was knocking 10 seconds from her 200m freestyle time ( 2.50.48).
Other notable top 2 performances go to Jack Nokes, ( 2nd in the 12/13 years 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke); Evie Adams (1st in 14/15 100m butterfly); James Attwater (1st 16 & over 400m IM); Harry Fulcher (2nd 12/13 years 100m butterfly); Adam last (2nd in 14/15 years 200m breaststroke); and Emily Prior (2nd 16 & over 50m butterfly).
