Your Club NEEDS YOUR HELP

Stephen Bunclark

Dear Members,

As I am sure you are aware, your swimming club is largely run by volunteers.  We have 16.5 hours of pool time to cover with six lanes running for each session.  Our paid staff account for less than one third of these man-hours and this only refers to pool time and not the behind the scenes work.  This is the only way we can keep our ever increasing costs down.

The amount of work involved in running a swimming club is immense, and as with everything, new regulations are being brought in all the time.  This piles on more pressure to our already creaking at the seams brilliant volunteers.

We desperately need help in the following areas:-

  • Teachers – to assist with our younger swimmers.
  • Team managers – looking after our swimmers at meets.
  • Officials – training to become an official at meets.
  • Workforce coordinator – committee role managing our team of volunteers and staff.
  • Finance – committee role assisting with the record keeping and control of the club’s finances.
  • SwimMark lead – committee role being responsible for ensuring our club is compliant and can retain our accreditation with periodic reporting.
  • Fundraiser – to help bring in more funds to the club to keep costs down.

Some of these are committee roles, some are not.  Some require additional training and some don’t.  All will be fully supported by our current committee and volunteers.

I KNOW IT IS EASY TO IGNORE THESE MESSAGES AND ASSUME SOMEONE ELSE WILL STEP IN, BUT OFTEN THEY WON’T!  PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING US TO KEEP OUR SWIMMERS SWIMMING.

If you are keen to help, please contact me at treasurer@debenswimmingclub.co.uk.

Thanks,

Lyn Davies – Deben SC treasurer
